Trout Fishing Lochs near Ford
Ford lies at the south western end of Loch Awe in Argyll. The village originated as a stopping point on the old drove route to Inveraray. The Ford Hotel dates back to 1864, and was probably erected on the site of the old change house. There are a number of excellent trout fishing lochs within easy reach for any fisherman willing to stretch his legs into the surrounding hills. The hill lochs on the Ederline Estate are of particular interest are. These include Loch Gaineamhach, Fincharn Loch Dubh Loch, Loch Nan Eilean, Loch Geoidh, Loch Leachd, Loch nan Cuinneg. More accessible are Loch Leathan and of course Loch Awe itself, twenty five miles in length.

The maps on this website, extracts from the “Half Inch” Bartholomew map series of the mid twentieth century, have been reproduced with the permission of Collins Bartholomew. Viewers should note that these maps date back several decades, to the mid twentieth century in fact. While much of the man-made details such as roads and buildings will have changed over the years, the character of the hills, lochs and rivers, and the trout inhabiting them, will have remained very much the same as they have always been, in the more remote regions at any rate! In addition, however, I would recommend that anglers planning a Scottish fishing or walking trip should be sure to equip themselves with a compass, the appropriate local Ordnance Survey map and a working knowledge of how to use them.
